Having watched Sarah grow up from a young child into an effective and diligent prosecutor, and now an attorney in practice "back home" with me here in Sycamore, and watching her learn from her father and the close friends we all have in the legal community, I know she has learned the most important lessons an attorney needs to know in practice in the justice system. Lessons of compassion, justice for all, integrity and respect for the law and all of those who come into the courts, whether as litigants, witnesses, victims or accused. The justice system continues to work in this country, in large part because of the fact that young lawyers like Sarah continue to grow and mature with these important values. It is her time to serve this County. Join me in supporting her in this effort..

Sarah Gallagher Chami is without question the most experienced and qualified candidate to be the next State's Attorney of DeKalb County. Significantly, she has been endorsed by the Illinois Municipal Police Association. This law enforcement organization has made the determination that they believe she is the best person to serve the citizens of Dekalb County in the office of State's Attorney.
If you go to the website of the State's Attorney of Dekalb County you will find that the State's Attorne, has the exclusive responsibility for prosecuting violations of the criminal laws of the State of Illinois as well as traffic violations. The State's Attorney also provides legal advice to all County Officials and represents the County in all actions where the County is a party. Cases handled by the State's Attorney include felony and misdemeanor criminal matters, traffic, juvenile detention and prosecution, juvenile abuse and neglect, interstate reciprocal child support and public aid cases, mental health, advice to government officials and tax collection prosecutions.
Sarah has been a criminal prosecutor her entire legal career. She was a Cook County Dist. 4 Criminal Prosecutions Bureau Supervisor of Preliminary Hearing and Grand Jury Unit, Felony Trial Division, Child Support Enforcement. She was a Cook County special prosecutor's office law clerk as well as experienced in the Kane County's domestic violence division. The range and volume of cases she has supervised and prosecuted personally cannot be matched by her opponent.
We have seen an increase in more incidents of violent crime in the county and need a States' Attorney who is knowledgeable and experienced in working with law enforcement towards the development and evaluation of evidence and successful prosecution of these cases. Some of the most vulnerable and preyed upon are children targeted for exploitation and sexual abuse. Currently, the State's Attorney chairs the Children's Advocacy Center advisory board. Sarah Gallagher Chami will bring insights and practice to build on the success we have had with the multidisciplinary approach of working with law enforcement , DCFS, mental health and medical providers to bring these cases to justice for the victims and to protect the community. As internet predators become more sophisticated Sarah will employ the most current and innovative law enforcement technologies.
Sarah is committed to the communities of DeKalb County and will work with schools, social service agencies and all community groups to ensure the safe quality of life the residents of Dekalb County expect. She understands the role of the State's Attorney and is ready to step into the job on day one. Her opponent has written another letter to inform the public of why he should be the Dekalb County States' Attorney. He does not address the issues most relevant to the job of States' Attorney. He cites cutting government spending, opposing any tax increase, preserving the courthouse and ending gang violence. It sounds as if he would rather be running for county board or a state wide legislative office where he can actually affect the outcomes of his stated priorities. If these are his primary concerns and reasons for wanting to be the State's Attorney, I am not sure he understands what he needs to know to be the States' Attorney.
